[NYlibrary] hands
are amazing
[NYlibrary] i want to do a hand duet with nora
[norahk] yeah!
[norahk] we see denis typing
[norahk] wow jsut for a minute though can we talk about that
[norahk] i loved all of it
[norahk] silvina's bath in the sky
[norahk] a dance with you
[library] some serious keyboard contortions!
[norahk] i actually felt like i was touching you at times
[library] yes, likewise
[norahk] when I carressed the giant fingers there was sensation akin to
carressing in physical form
[library] your reaction to the tight shot of my fingers was so close to
how i felt as i was holding my fingers in that place, position, duration
[library] your dance reaction i mean
[library] i was able to watch what ij was shooting, how it was being sent
to your background, how you were dancing with it all simultaneous
[norahk] silvina says that our perceptions that give us these experiences
[norahk] yes, the composite image
[norahk] in that image we do touch
[library] we do touch
[library] we feel many of the same things
[norahk] proprioceptions
[norahk] wild
[norahk] what a beautiful experience that was
[norahk] and for us stranded here is the giant metropolis
[norahk] a little taste of new york is like heaven
[library] we distorted space, love it, changed dimensions
because we can and we enjoy it!
[library] a little taste of your techno portal is nice too!
[library] hi this is ij
[library] this was terrific
[norahk] it is best when we also have a window out like today
[library] yes, this is the ticket, get out of the studio and into rl
[library] real life
[norahk] real life
[norahk] I feel good physically
[norahk] things here got very quiet and our breathing just slowed
[library] vry cool, who would have guessed -you CAN dance in the main
reading room!!!
[norahk] ralph lemon would be so proud
[library] nobody really seemed to notice here...
[library] the
world got to be a littlesmaller 2day
[silvina] thank you, small world indeed
[library] there really is something "real" about it all , today i mean
[norahk] I think it is because we incorporate it into our sensing bodies
[library] the "physical" distance "really" is collapsed in some part of
my brain and that part of my brain is changed even if only for a moment
[norahk] i did experience touch because I perceived it
[norahk] so true
[silvina] body connects even if you dont know how or when
[library] how is the sense of place or distance described by "scientific"
language? [library] what "science" is happening around this language we
are developing today?
[norahk] in geographic discourses sense of place include peripatetic (moving)
sensing
[norahk] i.e. walking
[library] phenomenological psychology?
[norahk] the effort of walking creates a sensation in the body (heat,
sweat, etc) that is an experience of place
[norahk] sensing place also has to do with memory of course
[library] when my "mind" goes to the screen space
that i know is in LA "part of me" is there
[norahk] have you all read Lucy Lippard's "lure
of the local"
[norahk] could probably get it there at the library
[library] i have not
[library] me neither
[library] hahahah
[library] we;ll look for it later
[library] sure we can borrow it here ; )
[norahk] anyway she likes to talk about sensing place
[norahk] did I sense the public library place?
[norahk] did i feel at home there?
[norahk] yes at times
[norahk] in the ceiling
[library] i'm working part time at a nusery for raising organic veggies,
we talk alot about the importance of the local as well
[silvina] i think sense of place, from a common sense point of view, has
to do with details you experience about your "home"
[norahk] local vs virtual
[library] abstract forms can create new spaces
[norahk] does this experience help you feel more at home where you are?
[norahk] understand LA differently?
[silvina] and you can feel that in different 'real" places, actually
[norahk] how does this kind of work affect our experiences of "lived"
place? [silvina] yeah!, actually i feel more at home at ucla than in glendale
(neighbourhood of LA
[library] it puts me more in touch with something of "who i am/where i
am"
[norahk] oh say more
[library] part of which is my own interest in "energy" in general and
my love for the "planet" as "home"
[norahk] right
[library] the portal was a very 'abstract" place from the beginning
[norahk] Peter Sellars says local is international
and international is local
[norahk] right
[silvina] i felt very connected to both cities today, 'cause for me i
am at a bulding home moment
[library] you are building a home within the portal enviro
[norahk] right
[norahk] I'm living here for two weeks, must make a good nes
[silvina] the fact of beign connected through dance and images, which
is really my own language, makes me feel more at home
[library] cosmos--absolute felt present today
[norahk] the body as home
[library] ij and i had visited the north pole site between bryant park
and reconnectin with you from the main reading room
[norahk] cosmos...cherubs and all
[silvina] so, what more an "own thing than the body?
[library] allow me this: "home is where your heart is" (ij)
[library] motto of my nomadic life
[silvina] yeah, who doesn't?
[norahk] lippard talks about having a "serially monogamous passion for
place" I always loved that
[library] i'm in a space polygamy right now
